Osmington Music came to life 2014 born of a love of live music, particularly modern folk. With the encouragement of a few like-minded people and with great trepidation, we approached Phil Beer (of Show of Hands fame) and asked him to play in Osmington Village Hall.
To our surprise and delight he said yes, and the hall that night was packed with a very enthusiastic audience who requested more of the same.
With the realisation that there is an appetite for good live music in the area, more gigs were booked with other great artists.
In Osmington Village Hall we have the perfect music venue. It is convenient and modern with good facilities; the acoustics are great and we have just bought new LED stage lighting. The hall’s conference room has direct access to the stage and doubles as a green room for musicians.
We can seat 120 café-style, which is our preferred set up – we like folk have somewhere to put their drinks - although we can extend that to 160 seated cinema style if necessary. The hall is licensed and we run a good bar. As an added bonus, we have our own carpark and parking is free!
We’ve been described as ‘bijou’ and ‘compact’ – and we’re happy to be so.
There’s nothing quite like live music in a smaller venue – the atmosphere is relaxed and intimate and a gig here is a more of a personal experience for both musician and audience.
Osmington Music has gone from strength to strength over the past four years.
Our Phil Beer gig paved the way for many other great folk names to come to Osmington. Steve Knightly and Miranda Sykes (also of Show of Hands) have both appeared several times solo, and Miranda has come to us with Grant Gordy and with Rex Preston. Jim Causely, Edgelarks, Ninebarrow, Gigspanner, HowdenJones, Brooks Wiliams, The Churchfitters, Reg Meuross, Geoff Lakeman, Winter Wilson, Bob Whitely and Lee Cuff, The Polly Morris Band and many others have all played to very appreciative audiences in this lovely village hall, and more are booked for next year. Osmington Music has gained a very good name for excellent live music and the occasional music quiz.
Suggestions for future acts are always welcome – we will do our best to get your favourite folk singer or band to Osmington Village Hall.
